ORGANIZATION DESCRIPTION

PAVE Schools, Inc. (PAVE) prepares Kindergarten to 8th grade students to thrive in competitive high schools and four-year colleges. PAVE provides its students with a rigorous academic program and a community built on the organization’s core values of Perseverance, Achievement, Vibrance, and Excellent character. PAVE supports the establishment and operation of:

 

PAVE Red Hook, a Kindergarten – 8th grade public charter school in Red Hook, Brooklyn. In 2017 – 2018, PAVE Red Hook will educate 490 Kindergarten – 8th grade scholars.

PAVE Southeast, a Kindergarten – 8th grade public charter school in Raleigh, NC. In 2017-2018, PAVE Southeast will educate 314 Kindergarten – 3rd grade scholars.

 

Embarking on a significant growth phase, PAVE Schools, a Charter Management Organization (CMO), was formed in 2014 to support the replication of the PAVE model in New York and North Carolina. Over the next 8 years, PAVE Schools will grow to a network of eight Kindergarten - 8th Grade schools (4 in each region), impacting more than 6,000 students.

OPPORTUNITY SUMMARY

Reporting directly to the CEO, and serving as a member of the Network Leadership Team (NLT), the Chief Operating Officer (COO) will be responsible for growing the organization from 2 schools (1 in NYC, 1 in NC) to 8 total schools (4 in NYC, 4 in NC) by 2023. The COO will maximize PAVE’s operational efficiency, building scalable systems and processes in day-to-day school and network operations. The COO will establish new schools for operation, drive the new charter application process and acquisition, and oversee the leasing and building of new facilities, in accordance with PAVE’s strategic plan. The COO will build organizational capacity by standardizing PAVE’s model.

HOW YOU'LL CONTRIBUTE

Operations:

  • Architect the infrastructure of core operational systems
  • Oversee the strategy, general management, service, and capital investment of all facilities and technology
  • Maximize the effectiveness of PAVE’s operations through direct management of PAVE Schools’ Director of Network Operations and Analytics, and indirect management of three school Directors of Operations
  • Develop and oversee a formal Operations Fellow Leadership Development Program, in partnership with other senior operational leaders
  • Work with school Directors of Operations to ensure strong budget management in accordance with PAVE’s financial policies and procedures

 

Legal and Risk Management:

  • Architect, establish, and maintain the legal formation of schools, under attorney guidance
  • Lead management of legal affairs, insurance, and other risk management strategies related to: students and family, labor law, real estate and authorizers.

 

New Site Development and Real Estate Management:

  • Serve as chief liaison between PAVE Schools and authorizers in NY and NC
  • Manage all contracts and relationships with authorizers, including charter authorization, reauthorization, and regular compliance submissions in adherence to all federal, state, and local compliance
  • Prospect and acquire facilities for new schools, overseeing new site financing, leveraging organizational resources to create thoughtful and strategic plans for new site expansion in alignment with PAVE’s 2023 Vision
  • Monitor and manage the execution of dynamic, highly-detailed new site expansion plans with multiple constituents, tracking progress toward outcomes and engaging key internal and external stakeholders to grow PAVE’s impact

WHAT YOU'LL BRING TO THE TEAM

  • Minimum of ten years experience, with a minimum of three years of senior management experience
  • Experience building high-performing teams and operating within a matrix management structure
  • Strong project management skills, with experience driving broad change agendas across multiple stakeholder groups
  • A history of designing and implementing systems that enhance student achievement and customer service
  • Strong general management skills with direct line, dotted line, and contracted team members
  • Experience designing and building organizational systems and managing large-scale
  • Proven entrepreneurial leadership—ability to take initiative, create, and exhibit influence within the unknown
  • Emotional constancy within fast paced, high stakes environments
  • Technological expertise and adaptability, including familiarity with database management, Google apps, Powerschool, Apple products, Illuminate, Excel, and infrastructure hardware
  • Experience leasing, purchasing, renovating, building, and financing facilities
  • Bachelor’s Degree required; advanced degree highly preferred
