    PAVE Schools, Inc. (PAVE) prepares Kindergarten to 8th grade students to thrive in competitive high schools and four-year colleges. PAVE provides its students with a rigorous academic program and a community built on the organization’s core values of Perseverance, Achievement, Vibrance, and Excellent character. PAVE supports the establishment and operation of:


    • PAVE Red Hook, a Kindergarten – 8th grade public charter school in Red Hook, Brooklyn. In 2018 – 2019, PAVE Red Hook will educate 490 Kindergarten – 8th grade scholars.
    • PAVE Southeast, a Kindergarten – 8th grade public charter school in Raleigh, NC.  In 2018-2019 PAVE Southeast will educate 400 Kindergarten – 4th grade scholars.


    PAVE Schools seeks an Associate Director, Finance (ADF) to oversee the day to day management of PAVE’s financial operations. The ADF will be PAVE Schools’ on the ground financial leader for 10 entities (4 operating entities and 6 support subsidiary LLCs), and will direct efficient and accurate financial operations to ensure that all of PAVE’s entities have the processes, procedures and controls in place to support effective budget management, accurate and timely financial reporting, and flawless audits.   Working in collaboration with school leaders, other staff, and consultants across PAVE, the ADF will form partnerships with colleagues to cultivate financial and compliance literacy at all levels of the organization. The ideal candidate for this role is eager for an entrepreneurial opportunity, has a passion for PAVE’s mission, and the possesses the flexibility, humility, energy, organizational skills, and financial acumen needed to execute at a high level on a collaborative team. The ADF is comfortable with both big picture thinking/planning and detail oriented “sweating the small stuff.” The ADF will report directly to the Managing Director, Finance.

    Planning, Policies & Systems

    • Oversee the management of the financial policies and procedures of the school on a day to day basis, and update the Financial Policies and Procedures manual annually
    • Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal financial filing and reporting requirements
    • Assist with developing and management of financial systems. Work with the Managing Director Finance to evaluate existing policies, procedures, controls and technology systems that govern the organization’s financial operations; identify gaps and process improvements
    • Educate faculty and administrative staff on acceptable procurement practices and purchasing procedures


    Accounting & Financial Operations

    • Direct and oversee monthly close sequence and tasks
    • Work in partnership with financial consultants and bookkeepers to ensure timely monthly close and annual audit cycles
    • Initiate, direct and manage the yearly audit cycle and 990 reporting, ensuring clean and seamless audits.
    • Supervise the payroll management system and oversee bi-monthly approval process


    Financial Management & Reporting

    • Create and manage budgets alongside the Network and School leadership teams
    • Oversee all accounting operations that support the preparation of monthly financial statements & reports, ad-hoc reporting for presentation to Board of Directors, PAVE’s Leadership Team, and external stakeholder meetings, including insightful and actionable analytics
    • Analyze a variety of financial information (e.g. revenues, expenditures, cost projections, insurance, etc.) for the purpose of providing direction and support, making recommendations, maximizing use of funds, and/or ensuring overall operations are within budget
    • Manage supporting documentation and reporting submissions for government funded or other grant funded programs
    • Manage Cash Flow and monitor daily activity of bank accounts


    Administration & Compliance

    • Oversee and execute on the management of contracts, leases, and agreements in partnership with attorneys and the Managing Director Finance
    • Work with Managing Director Finance and PAVE's brokers to administer, review, and renew all of PAVE's organizational insurance policies, including but not limited to General Liability, Property, D&O, Auto, Worker's Comp,
    • Manage the submission of required corporate and financial compliance documents
    • Understand the application of both GASB and FASB Standards


    Experience and Educational Background:

    • Bachelor’s Degree required; advanced degree (MBA/CPA or equivalent) experience preferred
    • 5-7 years professional experience in finance related position
    • Charter School Experience and/or Non-profit experience

    • Proficiency in Excel and other Microsoft Office products is required
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • Proficiency in QuickBooks and/or other accounting applications
    • Proficiency with Payroll Management Software (ADP, Paychex or similar)
