    PAVE Schools, Inc. (PAVE) prepares Kindergarten to 8th grade students to thrive in competitive high schools and four-year colleges. PAVE provides its students with a rigorous academic program and a community built on the organization’s core values of Perseverance, Achievement, Vibrance, and Excellent character. PAVE supports the establishment and operation of:

     

    • PAVE Red Hook, a Kindergarten – 8th grade public charter school in Red Hook, Brooklyn. In 2018 – 2019, PAVE Red Hook will educate 490 Kindergarten – 8th grade scholars.
    • PAVE Southeast, a Kindergarten – 8th grade public charter school in Raleigh, NC.  In 2018-2019 PAVE Southeast will educate 400 Kindergarten – 4th grade scholars.

    OPPORTUNITY SUMMARY

    PAVE Schools seeks a Human Resources Business Partner. Reporting to the Chief Change Officer and working in close partnership with the Managing Director, Finance, the Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) sets the strategy for and oversees the management and execution of all aspects of the employee life cycle including: on-boarding, off-boarding, benefits administration, employee relations, performance management, policy implementation, regulatory and employment law compliance. The HRBP will act as an employee champion and change agent, formulating partnerships with school-based teams and PAVE Schools to deliver value-added services to talent management in line with PAVE’s organizational priorities.

    HOW YOU'LL CONTRIBUTE

    Human Resource/Employee Data Management

    • Organize and Implement HR processes of the organization, including; on-boarding, off-boarding, employee relations, benefits, performance management
    • Collaborate with Managing Director of Finance and other relevant stakeholders to both to maintain and develop systems and processes to support compliance, compensation, benefits on-boarding, off-boarding, employee file management, and performance evaluation
    • Manage all stages of on-boarding and off-boarding processes, including; new hire paperwork, federal and state tax forms, and school compliance
    • Prepare and maintain HR Files (online and hard copy) and track employee HR paperwork (I-9’s, contracts, Performance Growth Plans, etc.)
    • Manage employee data in HR systems to assist management and school leadership with decisions and reporting
    • Apply technical HR acumen and expertise by demonstrating knowledge about state and federal labor, employment, and insurance law; including FLSA, FMLA, PPACA, NYC Sick Leave Law, ERISA ensure compliance
    • Perform detailed data analysis on data using Excel skills (including nested formulas, pivot-tables, and formatting techniques)
    • Develop systems and processes to support compliance, compensation, benefits on-boarding, off-boarding, employee file management, and performance evaluation
      Perform other duties as necessary


    Performance Management

    • In concert with NLT, support the design and rollout of a competency-based system for performance management; establish a process for consistent assessment of competencies from candidate identification and placement, and continuing throughout the employee lifecycle
    • Develop and deliver onboarding program for all staff to align incoming staff members to PAVE’s vision, mission, and set operating norms

     

    Benefits Administration

    • Manage the administration of all employee benefits including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, commuter benefits, pave lunch and 401k
    • Oversee and coordinate monthly enrollment of Commuter Benefits, FSA and PAVE lunch programs
    • Provide Managing Director of Finance with monthly human resources reports that include: status of COBRA benefits, disability, and workers' compensation claims

     

    Employee Relations

     

    • Strengthen relationships with the school-based leadership to promote HR processes as outlined by PAVE’s handbook and financial policies, procedures manual and other policy documents as needed
    • Serve as employee liaison with PAVE’s outside counsel across both New York and North Carolina
    • Collaborate with senior leadership and Chief Change Officer to develop initiatives that promote a healthy and sustainable workplace and adult culture
    • Collaborate with senior leadership and the Chief Change Officer to proactively resolve all employee relations issues, including: mediating and investigating complaints, grievances, and other human resources related matters
    • Meet with affected parties and facilitate resolution or assist in making final decisions
    • Policy Implementation
    • Manage human resource policies and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook on a day to day basis
    • Review and update the Employee Handbook annually
    • Embody, advocate and operationalize the mission, vision and strategic direction of PAVE

    WHAT YOU'LL BRING TO THE TEAM

    • Bachelor’s Degree required; advanced degree highly preferred
    • SHRM CP Certification recommended
    • General knowledge of City, State, and Federal HR and Certification regulations (NY and NC)
    • Experience in Charter School(s) and/or Non-Profit organizations
    • Strong project management skills, with experience managing multiple stakeholder groups
    • Proven entrepreneurial leadership—ability to take initiative, create, and exhibit influence within the unknown
    • Emotional constancy within fast paced, high stakes environments
